Great success at New Designers 2015

2015

Eve Kann was awarded the New Designers Hainsworth Statement Award for her imposing seven-foot high costume model based on Queen Herodias from the opera Salome. This award is given in recognition of outstanding creativity and originality for textile development and finish.

AW Hainsworth is a long established textile company, internationally renowned for manufacturing woollen fabrics, and integrating the traditional qualities of craftsmanship with cutting edge innovation. The company was particularly impressed with the level of process and innovation that Eve had used, commenting on her visual impact and verbal description of the process, the creativity of the fabric used and the scale of her product.

Eve said: "I really enjoyed the design and making process as I had to make decisions along the way. I learnt a lot too! I hadn't made a wig before but I got a lot of help from one of the technicians at NTU.

"I wanted to use a fantastic  fabric I had seen in London which I couldn't afford, so I decided to go for a cheaper version and I started to experiment with it to achieve the look I wanted using heat to melt parts of the fabric. The more I did, the more I wanted to do, and it all turned into a big experiment.

Eve won the Awards Prize of £1000 to support the development of design and production going forward.
